Terms of use
Effective: 1 August 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Stephen Baugh, operator of The Possibility Calculator. They apply to the public website, web application, iPhone app and Android app. By creating an account, buying a subscription or using the service, you agree to these terms and the privacy policy.
A planning tool, not financial advice
The Possibility Calculator is a budgeting and planning tool. It is not financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell, borrow or invest. Projections are estimates based only on the balances, payments, rates and returns entered. They may omit fees, taxes, inflation, changing rates, market movements, timing differences and other details. Actual outcomes will differ. Check important decisions independently and consider a suitably qualified adviser.
Accounts and acceptable use
- You must provide accurate registration information, protect your password and devices, and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
- You may use the service for lawful personal financial planning. Do not access another person's data, misuse the service, interfere with its operation, bypass access controls, probe it for vulnerabilities, or use automated access that unreasonably burdens it.
- You own the information you enter. You give us only the limited permission needed to store, process, display and back it up so we can provide the service.
- You are responsible for checking amounts, frequencies, dates, interest rates, returns and other inputs. Monthly averages do not guarantee that cash will be available when a weekly, seasonal or annual bill falls due.
What a subscription provides
An active monthly or annual subscription provides access to the subscription features available for your account, including:
- creating and comparing budget scenarios;
- tracking income, expenses, debt payments, investments and savings;
- planning goals and the next steps needed to achieve them; and
- viewing debt-payoff estimates and long-term projections.
An entitlement linked to the same Possibility Calculator account can be recognised across the web, iPhone and Android apps. A purchase is not transferable to a different account and you should not buy overlapping subscriptions through multiple providers.
Price, billing and automatic renewal
- Price and currency: the checkout or store purchase screen shows the exact price, currency, billing period, tax treatment and any eligible introductory offer before you confirm. Store prices may differ from website prices and can vary by country.
- Website: Stripe processes web subscriptions. Your Stripe subscription renews automatically for the selected monthly or annual period until cancelled.
- iPhone: Apple charges your App Store account when you confirm the purchase, or after an eligible trial. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple may charge the renewal within 24 hours before that end date.
- Android: Google Play charges your Play account when you confirm the purchase, or after an eligible trial. The subscription renews automatically for the selected period until cancelled in Google Play.
- Trials and offers: any free trial, introductory offer or official store offer code is subject to the eligibility and terms shown by Apple, Google Play or Stripe. Unless cancelled before the trial ends, it converts to the paid subscription shown at checkout.
Changing, cancelling or restoring a subscription
- You may manage, cancel or change a subscription through the provider that billed it. The Settings subscription panel links to the appropriate management page.
- Apple: manage the subscription at Apple Subscriptions.
- Google Play: manage the subscription at Google Play Subscriptions.
- Stripe: use the subscription-management link in the web Settings page.
- Cancellation normally stops renewal but leaves access available until the current paid period ends. Any immediate cancellation or prorated refund required by local law or offered by a store is controlled by that provider.
- Plan changes, their effective date and any charge, credit or proration are shown by the billing provider before you confirm. Do not start a second subscription to change plans.
- The mobile apps include Restore Purchase. Restoration succeeds only when the store account and verified transaction can be linked to the Possibility Calculator account you are using.
- Deleting the Possibility Calculator account does not itself cancel an Apple or Google Play subscription. Cancel the store subscription first if you do not want it to renew. Website deletion attempts to cancel a Stripe subscription before deleting the account.
Refunds, failed payments and hardship access
- Apple and Google Play control refunds for purchases they process. Stripe website refunds are handled under applicable consumer law and the circumstances of the request. Contact support@thepossibilitycalculator.com if you need help identifying the right route.
- If a payment fails, access may continue during a provider retry or grace period and end if the subscription is not recovered. A refund, revocation, chargeback or lost payment dispute may end access earlier.
- Discounts, hardship access and other special entitlements are personal, subject to their stated conditions, and may not be sold, shared or obtained by misrepresentation.
Availability, changes and termination
- We may maintain, improve, replace or discontinue features. We will try to give reasonable notice where a material change substantially affects a paid service.
- We may suspend or close an account for serious or repeated breach, fraud, security risk, unlawful use or harm to the service or others. Where practical and lawful, we will explain the reason and allow a reasonable opportunity to correct it.
- You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. See the account-deletion instructions.
Intellectual property
The Possibility Calculator application, branding, interface, text and underlying software belong to Stephen Baugh or the relevant licensors. These terms give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the service; they do not transfer ownership of the product or another user's content.
Warranties and liability
- The service is provided on an "as available" basis. We work to keep it accurate, secure and available but cannot promise uninterrupted or error-free operation, or that a projection will match a real-world outcome.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for investment, borrowing, spending or other financial decisions made using the service, or for indirect, consequential or unforeseeable loss.
- Nothing in these terms excludes or limits a guarantee, remedy or liability that applicable consumer law does not allow us to exclude, including rights that may apply under New Zealand's Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
Platform terms
Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the iPhone app, and Google Play's applicable terms also govern Android store purchases. If a mandatory platform term conflicts with these terms for that platform, the mandatory platform term applies to the extent of the conflict.
Changes, governing law and contact
We may update these terms. We will update the effective date and give reasonable notice of material changes where required. These terms are governed by New Zealand law, while preserving any mandatory rights you have under the law of the country where you live.
